Dr Pat Gibbons (Centre for Humanitarian Action, University College Dublin) participated in OCHA’s sixth annual Global Humanitarian Policy Forum on 13 December 2017 in New York.  The theme of this year’s Policy Forum was “Reaching for the future: Humanitarianism in 2030.”  It explored the following overarching question: What is the scale and depth of change required by the humanitarian sector to contribute toward lifting the most vulnerable out of crises between now and 2030?

Key issues raised at the Forum included how to finance humanitarian operations given the rapidly changing geopolitical context; the importance of the humanitarian-development nexus and the fostering of resilience; and further understanding the wide-ranging implications of urbanisation for humanitarian action.

Dr Pat Gibbons is Coordinator of the PRUV project and Director of University College Dublin’s Centre for Humanitarian Action (cha.ucd.ie).
